Welcome!
The United Methodist Women offer women of all ages the opportunity for Christian learning, service, fellowship and all-round good fun making connections with our Kent United Methodist Women. All women of the church are eligible and welcome!
Special Program on Human Trafficking - Saturday, May 18
Human Trafficking Awareness Program sponsored by United Methodist Women will be held Saturday, May 18th at 12:00 noon in the Fellowship Hall. United Methodist Women’s (UMW) May General Meeting will be held on Saturday instead of our usual third Tuesday, so that more women will be available to attend. All women of the church are invited to join us.
We will begin with a luncheon at noon, followed by the program around 12:40. Our guest speaker is Detective Harry James of the Seattle Police Department's High Risk Victims Unit. He is also a member of the FBI's Child Exploitation Task Force. A short business meeting will follow the program.
UMW has been working to raise awareness of this modern day form of slavery and to give those subjected to this crime a voice for more than a decade . As advocates for social justice, UMW will continue to work for the rights of those exploited by this cruel trade.
Though many people believe this crime is unthinkable, human trafficking is prevalent not just in faraway countries, but all across the United States and right here in Washington. Human trafficking preys on the helpless and those who do not have an outlet to speak out. Please attend this meeting to learn what is being done by law enforcement to end human trafficking, and what we can do to help protect those in our community from becoming victims of this terrible crime.
Purpose
The organizational unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ, to develop a creative, supportive fellowship and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.
